The Arc in the Community
The Arc Macon is involved in the community in several ways, offering resources, educational meetings, seasonal parties, and a yearly Summer Camp. You may learn more about each of these below.
Day Support
Day Support Programs provide social integration and learning opportunities for individuals that need some structured support to use resources within the community at large and integrate into their home communities. These supports are funded through the state Medicaid waiver program under the titles of CAI (Community Access Individual) and CAG (Community Access Group).
The Arc provides day support through individualized activities and planning with the individuals in service. The individualized activities may include gym memberships, cooking classes, art classes, club membership and participation, or support to attend community events, etc.
Services are provided in Macon-Bibb County.
Membership & Annual Awards
Twice yearly Membership meetings are held to provide education, networking, and fellowship for parents and individuals we support. Meetings usually have a program on a current topic of interest and some meetings are just for fun, as is the case of our annual Repeat Talent Show from summer camp. Meetings are traditionally held in October and April. The April meeting includes an Annual Award ceremony to recognize outstanding service or support for individuals and/or programs that benefit people with developmental disabilities. Nominations are accepted from the local community at large. Meetings usually begin with a light supper provided by The Arc or a pot-luck supper with meat furnished. Meetings are free and open to the public. A detailed flyer will be posted on our Facebook page prior to each meeting.
Recreational
&
Social
Seasonal parties are held in partnership with the Macon/Bibb County Parks and Recreation Department-Adaptive Program. These include a Valentine Banquet and Dance ($10 per person), October Fall Jamboree ($10 per person), and Christmas Banquet and Dance ($10 per person).
Regular Fitness for All, Music & Movement, and Chair Yoga classes take place throughout the month around the community. These classes are grant-funded, so there is no charge to attendees. All are welcome! Check out our social media for updates on available classes.
The Arc Macon also provides Special Olympic training in Basketball Skills, Table Tennis, Softball, and Bocce’ Ball. A team is also sponsored to compete in the State Master’s Bowling Tournament. Look for updates and event postings on our website.
